Bampton Players celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Members past and present were invited to a special afternoon tea party. There was also an award ceremony….
Part of the furniture: Derek McCarthy. Awarded to the person who has been involved with the Players for so long they are essentially part of the hall’s infrastructure. He’s done every job there is to do from acting to sweeping the floor.
The Still Standing Trophy: Gavin Haig. Awarded to a senior member of the Players who can still just about make it onto the stage.
Cupid’s Dart : Liz and Colin Williams. Awarded to the couple whose stage kiss led to marriage.
The Raw Fish Award: Judi Thomas. She stayed in character but still hasn’t forgiven Derek Webster!
The Magic Wand Award: Alison Diamond. Awarded tot he person who can turn a cardboard box and some curtains into a royal palace on a budget of £5.
The Golden Hammer Award: Alan Woolley. Awarded to th set builder who can “just make it work” with gaffer tape and some left over emulsion.
The Golden Baker Award: Avril Saxby. For the Player who has made a literal mountain of cake over the years.
The Polygrip Prize: Barney Hopkinson. For the Actor who kept jaw-droppingly calm during a show when unexpectedly parted from his denture.
