The Players led a procession of school-children along the road to the Stage where the Players performed a very short Christmas play. This involved the Town Crier, Father Christmas (of course), the Christmas Fairy (of course), two cuddly toys, and, um, Darth Vader complete with light-sabre. Good triumphed over evil (guess who!) and it all ended with ‘Let there be light!’ and after a dramatic lengthy pause (as in announcing winners/rejects in TV competitions) the big Christmas tree lights came on. Ahhhhh. The children then sang some carols to the crowd.
